My dog hates wearing a collar. He scratches like he is wearing a wool sweater. Is there an alternative-collar ?
have tried nylon, leather, chain-choker collars- he scratches and tries to get them off all the time.
Is it the right size? You should be able to fit 2 fingers between the collar and the neck.
There are alternatives for walking your dog (none of which I like), but there is no alternative for tags, and most areas require a dog to have at least a rabies tag, and possible a license tag as well on the collar.
If the collar is sized properly, and the dog still scratches, make an appointment with the vet. If there are no health concerns, then your dog will just have to get used to it - only put the collar on when outside, and teach the dog to "leave it".
