Standard Comfort
What is the ideal temperature for a retail store?

I own a retail store and have always set a standard temperature (70F-73F) for the air conditioner based on what I believed is best for the customers. The employees (all female) have thought it to be a little too cool for their preference but have not complained about it too much. I would prefer the store to be cooler than what it is but believe the customers comfort is priority one. It is a used bookstore with about a 60% female/40% male clientele. I mention gender because men tend to be warmer and women cooler (not always be generally).

Recently I hired a new employee who is freezing whenever the air conditioner is turned on. She finds the temperatures unacceptable cool when the A/C is on...even at 78F in the store..and has complained frequently this first week of A/C season (late April). I "laid down the law" and said that the temperature issue was a non-negotiable and that she had to deal with the A/C? Is asking to keep the store at a constant temp of 70F-73F unreasonable?

70-72 is about right. If the employees are actually working and moving around the store, they will not be cold:)
