How much should I be prepared to pay for a toy poodle puppy as a pet?
I want a dog that has been well socialized loved, and was brought up at home with the breeder. I'm trying to do the right thing but I get the sense that a lot of so called "breeders" are actually brokers. I want to avoid this pitfall.
The majority of breeders are not brokers but in fact all too many of them don’t care that deeply about the animals’ medical requirements.
There are questions that should be asked, such as;
1. What kind of prenatal care did the mother have, did she go the vet during her pregnancy?
2. Did the mother get special nutrients while pregnant and after while feeding her pups?
Few breeders will actually have the whelping in the home, the dog needs solitude.
The price will be totally dependent upon your area and the going price of the breed, plus how a dog fits the breed standard.
Except when indicated; socializing and training are your responsibility.
There may be special conditions where you can get a companion dog, one that doesn’t fit the breed standard perfectly and is not sold for breeding or show purposes, they are also cheaper.
I would recommend staying away from casual back-yard breeders
Contact the American Kennel Club and asks for a benched show near you. That is where you can go to see the dogs, talk to the breeders and make your arrangements.
